Water was a little stained but crystal clear. It's a beatiful place this time of year. Great place to visit and you can rent cabins on the water.
Arizona has wonderful state parks & campgrounds. We loved Roper Lake State Park. Not as busy as others and had spacious sites with lake views. Loved hearing the red-winged blackbirds and coots call. We had decent wi-fi here. We had 50 amp power and water, but no sewer hook-up. Sani-dump was available. We had site 17. Site was spacious with mountain and lake views. Our site was clean and raked with a picnic ramada. Rangers were helpful. There were a number of hiking trails which provided elevated views of the area. Or you could follow the level trail around the lake. This was our second visit and we look forward to returning.
Friendly, affordable, accessible, and filled with the desert's beauty - they have everything you could want in a high desert getaway. We first parked our motor home between a huge mesquite & a gazebo covered picnic table, before moving closer to the lake where we can listen to the ducks. There's cabins if you're interested, and a picturesque path between them & the showers. The Rangers are helpful and friendly and shopping in nearby Safford/ Thatcher is a delight - the prices are well below what I'm used to. Just be ready for everyone to say hello. This is the very best of small town life.
Beautiful setting. Very family friendly and oriented, amazing views of Mount Graham from the shores of the lake. Awesome little hiking trails.
We took our 2 year old to Roper and stayed in the cabins. The cabins sit along the lake edge and the view is beautiful day or night. We love seeing the variety of birds, wildlife and peacefulness of Roper. We took a well cleared hike around the lake. Toward the evening, we relaxed in the hot springs in Roper. The camp fire is outside the cabin and is a perfect way to end the evening. I highly recommend Roper. The Rangers are always around and there to help.
My family stayed a long weekend and were overall happy campers at Roper. The grounds and facilities were all very well maintained and there are options for everyone. There was even a dog park which was a nice touch. The lake itself is on the small side and with the water levels down, the swimming area was not really a swimming area in that it is less than waist deep and very mucky. The kids don't mind that though. When the wind isn't blowing too bad there are a few options for fishing spots. We had a few bites but no real luck there this trip. Definitely lock up food and trash at night or raccoons will have their way with it.
The first thing we went to when arriving at the park was the hot spring. It was my first experience with a hot spring. The water was warmer then expected. We went on the hike near the spring. There are some pretty views of the lake and the mountain. We were able to do the hike easily with our 7 and 5 year old kids.
Nice park. Camping sites are not real close together. Bath houses available. No motor on lake. Nice swim area and hiking trails. Great mountain views.
